Membership Dues Poll

At the general meeting tonight there was discussion concerning how our membership dues are divided up. Currently 100% of your membership dues go back to the York County Parks to be earmarked for trails. To date YAMBA has donated over $16,000 back to the York County Parks.

As the years have gone by, it has been getting harder and harder for YAMBA to maintain its budget out of the operating fund. Currently this account is funded by the chainsaw cookout and any above and beyond donations given to the club. With costs for insurance, tools, supplies, and postage rising YAMBA is getting pinched tighter every year.

What do you think YAMBA should do to help raise the balance in the operating fund? Vote in the poll on the right, and feel free to leave a comment with this post. If you vote for the option "some other percentage split" please leave a comment on what you would like to see that split be.

  1. Can we get some kind of accounting for what the parks usese the trail money for?

  2. The trail money from our club members' dues goes into a special account earmarked for trail improvements. Whenever we need additional tools, lumber to build bridges, carsonite trail markers, first aid kits, crushed stone for wet areas, etc. the money spent on these items comes out of our "bikers" account. So to answer your question, yes we know what the money is spent in regards to trail improvements. Thanks for your question. Skip

  3. I voted for "some other % split. With the dues collected, I believe enough should be retained for YAMBA to operate effectively, without being pinched for cash. Whatever is left over could be donated to the parks for future trails.

  4. $16,000 is a lot of money. How much is left in that account? Is there a budgetary estimate for how much will be needed on an annual basis, compared to the YAMBA donations? Seems like that would be important info for answering this poll.

  5. Would it be possible to have from each membership a set dollar amount go to the Parks, say $5 or $10 per membership and the rest to YAMBA with the idea being different levels of membership, a la other organizations such as the USGA or various charities? Maybe a $20/$50/$100 level of sponsorship? Perhaps it can be marketed along the lines of the higher level you sign up for the more you sponsor the organization (YAMBA) that makes mountain biking in York County a reality?

  6. just b/c we (YAMBA) wouldn't be donating a 100% to the York County Parks doesn't mean that all the money collected for dues wouldn't be going back to the trails.

the idea is that when YAMBA needs money for the operating fund, trails tools, lumber etc, the money is there in our hand and we don't have to ask for it.

YAMBA would still make a contribution to the parks for what they provide, we just wouldn't be doing a "give it all" to the parks.

think of this as a step for the club to get stronger, nothing is meant to be a negative towards the parks.
